The season is now past the midway point and district play has opened up with a game on Friday against Clarksville Northwest. Let’s see where both squads sit right now.

Lady Cougars:

The Lady Cougars currently sit at 8-11 after a loss last night to the Lady Vikings in the first district game 72-56.

That’s the second game this month where the box score does not at all indicate how close the contest really was. Just a few weeks ago the Lady Red Hawks of Creekwood pulled away in the 4th quarter but the game was a nail-biter for a majority of it.

Last night it was Tamia Scott for NW that set the tone with 33 total points, 14 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

AC Milam started off strong with 16 first-half points but they were able to suppress her scoring in the final 16 minutes only allowing five points from the sharpshooter for 21 total.

Rylee Moore had 14 points with three triples hit as well.

Anna Leatherwood, who Coach Erin Webb called “their secret weapon” for the latter part of the season had 10 points and her shooting looks to be improved tremendously from the beginning of the season.

Cougars:

The boys’ team this month has really come into themselves. The identity of this team is being found right before our eyes and it’s been a fun ride.

Though it all hasn’t resulted in wins, this whole month has been barnburners for the boys.

Out of the five losses this month for the boys, it has all come by a total of 11 points. Just brutal stuff for this guy’s team.

Graham Peeler in the Friday Night game this week against NW had 26 points with six rebounds and a couple made threes. The freshman has been a huge part of this team improving and becoming a quality product.

The newer addition to the team, Chanx Martin, has also been impressive since rising up to varsity and has emerged as an imperative part of the squad. He had 18 points with a pair of threes as well.

The Cougars really are a different team than even just four weeks ago. Their improvement has been remarkable.

Both teams will play Fairview at Fairview on Monday in a three-game week next week.
