Today’s Rewind Song of the Day celebrates the day American Idol won it all and Carrie Underwood’s fantastic career launched before our eyes!

Carrie is far and away the brightest star to come out of American Idol. She has won every award imaginable, she’s topped the charts over and over, and she’s got a magazine cover family. Her Oklahoma charm and girl next door appearance had viewers locked in from the beginning of the season and her huge voice blew us all away. That makes Carrie the best spokesperson AI could have hoped for.

On this day in 2005, she won American Idol performing Martina McBride’s ‘Independence Day’ and Rascal Flatts’ ‘Bless the Broken Road.’ Later that year Underwood released her much anticipated debut album Some Hearts to massive success. Her first single from Some Hearts, Jesus Take the Wheel, went straight to number one.

Carrie would go on to succeed where other reality TV artists had failed. She produced six consecutive number ones from 2006-2008 cementing herself as one of the greatest country artists of the era. Billboard labeled her the top country female artist of the 2000’s and 2010’s, beating out artists like Taylor Swift and Miranda Lambert. Now she’s continuing to change the game with her Christmas album My Gift and a gospel cover album My Savior.

Today we remember her big win with our Rewind Song of the Day and Carrie’s first number one; Jesus Take the Wheel. Take a listen below and tune in tomorrow at 9 for another Rewind Song!
