Tuesday night was a night of celebration for Dickson County’s girls’ soccer team.
Not only were they culminating a season-long celebration of the 30th anniversary of their inaugural season, but it was also senior night.
As well, the Lady Cougars were hosting Northwest for a district semifinal.
All of that came crashing down, however, in a heartbreaking loss 3-2 to the Lady Vikings.
Dickson County put forth a valiant effort.
After giving up a goal halfway through the first period, it seemed as if the Lady Cougars would enter halftime trailing.
Not the case though, as they blasted home a goal with just six seconds remaining to make it a 1-1 tie.
That gave many fans and this team hope for the second half.
That hope stood strong until Northwest scored two consecutive goals taking a 3-1 lead.
The Lady Cougars fought back scoring with just under two minutes in regulation, but could not find the back of the net.
It was still a very successful season for the Lady Cougars.
Coach Chris Cardona will now get ready to turn around and coach the boys’ team in the spring, we will see if they can have the same level of success or possibly even more.
