Day 5 of the Joseph Daniels Trial.
The trial resumed at 8:00 am with Ray Crouch calling its first witness, Jenny Jones. Jones testified that she saw somebody standing on a bridge East side against a guard rail at 1:30 in the morning. Jones stated that the man was wearing a multicolored shirt and red shorts.
Jake Lockert cross examined Jones and it was later revealed that she didn’t call in to make the report until after she saw Daniels’ picture on television.
Shortly after, the prosecution called their second witness TBI Agent Joey Boyd. Boyd and TBI Agent Robbie Faulkner had previously interviewed Joseph Daniels.
At this point in the trial, the court held a recess before showing the redacted video of the interview to the jurors.
The video showed Daniels being questioned by Agents Boyd and Faulkner.
In the interview, Daniels stated several different stories about what events took place that night.
One statement included Daniels stating that his step-son, Alex Nolan, woke him at around 11:30 that night. Nolan told Daniels that baby Joe had peed on the floor and was laughing about it. Daniels then entered the room and admitted to spanking baby Joe four times before putting him back to bed.
In another statement, Daniels said that baby Joe ran out of the house towards the road and he ran after him and brought him back; however, he also stated that baby Joe ran to the road again and didn’t return.
To follow this statement up, Daniels then notified police the next morning after baby Joe was still missing. Daniels noticed that the car door was slightly open and told police to check the trunk of the car to see if he had got in there.
Towards the end of the interview, Daniels admitted to beating baby Joe for a span of 5-10 minutes in front of his step-sonAlex.
Daniels then proceeded to put baby Joe into the trunk of his father’s car and drove to a field where he abandoned baby Joe.
After the interview, Boyd further testified that Daniels questioned his actions in an attempt to determine what information he knew. Additionally, under cross examination, Boyd stated that Joseph Daniels lied about the location of Baby Joe’s body.
The trial will continue with day six tomorrow morning at 8:00 am.
