January 11, is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. The Blue Campaign, which is the voice for the US Department of Homeland Security, uses its efforts to combat human trafficking. The Blue Campaign works in collaboration with law enforcement, government, non-governmental and private organizations to protect the basic right of freedom and to bring those who exploit human lives to justice.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, human trafficking is modern day slavery involves the use of force, fraud or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial act. Every year millions of men, women, and children are trafficked in countries around the world including the United States.
The Blue Campaign wants everyone to wear Blue on Friday, January 11 to pledge solidarity with trafficking victims and help end slavery. Wear blue clothing, snap a photo, and post it to social media using #WearBlueDay to raise awareness of human trafficking.
