WDKN AM 1260 Dickson, Tennessee
Kristy Owings
I suppose if I think about it radio is in my blood. My Grandmother used to sing on WSIX in Nashville in the early 1940's. She was really good and we still have the fan mail she received! She chose to start a family instead of getting into the music business.
I was born in Nashville and raised here in Dickson until the age of 12. That's when I moved with my parents to Jefferson, North Carolina in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I graduated high school in 1993. While in high school I was a member of the marching band, playing the flute. After graduation, I got interested in radio while attending college, working at the college radio station on the campus of Wilkes Community College, home of the annual Merle Watson festival. I had my own show on Friday nights called Kris' Collections. I played all 80's music and got a great response from the community.
I moved back to Dickson in 1995, and started working in the office at WDKN. It wasn't long until I was introduced to Swap And Shop! That one time was all it took to be hooked! In addition to on-air work, I also manage the office and handle the invoicing and staff payroll. I am proud to call WDKN my home. My co-workers are like family. I am proud to be a part of this community and offer the support we do. My favorite thing is Old Timer's Day! I love getting to see everyone who comes out to participate in ths wonderful event! The thing I like most about being in radio is knowing that you might make a difference
