Volunteers are needed to help with many of the activities for this weekend’s 56th annual Old Timers Day celebration. An orientation session for anyone interested in helping out will be at 5:30 pm today at the Clement Railroad Hotel Museum. “We need volunteers at the museum and throughout the festival on Saturday,” said Terry Vaughan. “If you are not already committed somewhere in the festival, come and be a part of this special day.” Vaughan said a variety of volunteer opportunities are available, from just a couple of hours to all-day commitments from 5:30 am-6 pm Saturday. “If you can volunteer for an hour, two hours or all day, come (Thursday) evening, allow us to give you all the information and find the right location for you to give to your community,” Vaughan said. Volunteer opportunities are available indoors and outdoors at many of the special activities going on Saturday. The Old Timers Day Committee already has a list of more than 25 volunteers signed up for the day, but with an all-day celebration that covers a six-block area, more volunteers are needed to supervise activities, help people find activities and for other roles. Old Timers Day gets under way Friday with the Old Timers Day Quilt Show at Walnut Street Church of Christ and a 6:30-8 pm reception for the new Old Timers Day Art Exhibit at Events on Main. Saturday’s activities begin at 6 am with the Civitan Pancake Breakfast and continue until around 6 pm when the Robert Spicer Dance Competition should wrap up. In between will be what is predicted to be the largest parade in event history, the Liars Contest, Ms. Old Timers Pageant, Bison 5K Run and Walk, children’s activities, live music, living history demonstrations, photography exhibit, antique tractors and farm equipment, classic cars, arts and crafts, political speeches, food and so much more. Anyone who would like to volunteer but is unable to attend Thursday’s orientation session should call the museum at 446-0500. The 56th annual Old Timers Day continues with the theme “All Roads Lead Home” and this year celebrates the city of Dickson.
