The Dickson Police Department has a nose for new talent.

The department recently brought aboard Stella, Dickson’s second drug-enforcement dog that is already getting rave reviews from officers.

The 18-month-old was selected by the force after three other dogs had auditioned for the job, said Dickson Police Chief Jeff Lewis. Stella is already on patrol and helping the department find illegal drugs, the chief said.

She joins Nina, a three-year-old Shepherd, as Dickson’s premier canine tandem.

The department used federal drug funds to pay the $8,500 to acquire and train Stella, Lewis said.
