Release: Community Volunteers Requested for Joe Clyde Daniels Search, Saturday, May 19th

The Dickson County Sheriff’s Office is asking for community volunteers, at least 18 years of age, to come out on May 19th and assist in the search and recovery of the remains of Joe Clyde Daniels. Each person wishing to volunteer will need to visit our website at www.dicksoncountysheriff.com to complete personal information and sign a disclosure in order to be an approved volunteer for the search.

The search will happen rain or shine on Saturday, May 19th. All volunteers will meet at 7:00 a.m. at Dickson County High School, on Hwy. 70, where each person will be assigned to a team and will board a bus to head to the search area. Each volunteer is asked to commit to search the entire day as busses will not return to Dickson County High School until the end of the day. The search will continue until there is no daylight, or until Joe Clyde Daniels’ remains are located.

All potential volunteers must be physically capable of navigating hills, fences, brush, briars, streams, and areas of mud to maximize the search effort. All volunteers must have appropriate footwear for climbing up and down hills, cross small streams, walking through mud. Long pants are encouraged as some areas are extremely thick with briars. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a small backpack with sunscreen, tick repellent, water, and snacks. Water, snacks, and lunch will also be delivered to each team throughout the day while in the field. Volunteers are encouraged to wear gloves or have them in your backpacks to help navigate briar thickets. No flip-flops or sandals will be permitted during the search. Walking sticks are encouraged. Please layer clothing appropriate for forecasted temperatures and conditions. If storms are in the area, search teams will seek shelter. Support vehicles and EMS will be on stand-by if needed.

Volunteers will not be allowed to have cameras or cell phones, and taking videos and photographs will be strictly prohibited as this is a Criminal Investigation.

All volunteers will be issued armbands and assigned to teams. If you are planning to search with a family member or friend and want to be placed on the same team, please make sure to submit your paperwork together at one time. We will make every effort to accommodate these requests.

All volunteers are asked to please remember, if found, Joe Clyde Daniels will not resemble the beautiful, blonde haired child we have seen in photographs. Please make sure you can endure what you might find.

Please be advised if Dickson County High Schools graduation ceremony is canceled Friday night and rescheduled for Saturday morning, our staging/registration area will move just down the road to the parking lot of Crosspoint Church, next door to the YMCA, on Hwy. 70.
