Longtime Burns Fire Chief Sullivan dies
The man who served the Burns Fire Department for over three decades, died Wednesday “peacefully,” according to his obituary.
Melvin Sullivan, 73m of Burns died with his family by his side.
A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, August 17 at the Burns Church of Christ Fellowship Hall from 2 pm – 5pm.
Sullivan retired in 2013 after years fighting fires. He also served as the town’s maintenance supervisor.
Sullivan joined the Burns Fire Department in 1975 as a volunteer. The Burns Commission appointed him interim fire chief after his brother, Chief Kenny Sullivan went on medical eave in November 2008.
In April 2009, the commission appointed Melvin Sullivan fire chief and assistant to the state fire marshals office.
