Creek Wood High School is scheduled to face Giles County for the Region 6-AA softball championship at 5:00 today in Charlotte. The winner will host a state sectional Friday while tonight’s loser hits the road. Creek Wood earned a spot in the region title game with a convincing 7-1 semifinal win over Page Monday. Taylor Griffith got the win with nine strikeouts and held the Lady Patriots in check until giving up a run in the seventh inning with Creek Wood ahead 7-0. Samantha Davenport got the Lady Red Hawks on the board first with a triple in the second and then scoring the game’s first run. Beckey Melton’s RBI double in the third scored Griffith for a 2-0 lead. Ashley Gibbs got a double in the fourth and scored on a Montana Thomas single to go up 3-0. Melton’s RBI single in the fifth started a three-run burst that left Creek Wood ahead 6-0. Kayla Jackson scored for the second time in the sixth as the Lady Red Hawks were in control 7-0. Giles County moved into the region final by eliminating Waverly 8-4. The Region 6-AA winner will host Greenbrier Friday while tonight’s loser will travel to White House. The Lady Blue Devils claimed the Region 5-AA championship Tuesday by beating Greenbrier 1-0.
