The Discovery School in Dickson was recognized on Wednesday morning in a pep rally for their participation a canned food drive, which was held in an effort to end hunger in Middle Tennessee.
The food drive was held as a part of WKRN-TV’s Food 2 Families initiative benefitting Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. Schools across the state have been collecting non-perishable food items throughout the year. In total nearly 360,000 pounds of food were collected from sixty schools in twelve counties.
“This is one example of the kindness and generosity of the families of Dickson County. As educators, we are proud to teach and develop personal values among students, and involve them in such community projects,” Dr. Danny Weeks, Director of Schools said about the results of the food drive.
The Discovery School was presented with a $500 check from WKRN for placing as one of the top three schools to donate the most items. The pep rally was also visited by T-Rac, the mascot of the Tennessee Titans.
