Cougar rally falls short 4-3 in baseball opener against Ravenwood

A Dickson County rally fell short in a 4-3 baseball season-opening loss to Ravenwood at Shelby Rye Field Monday. After falling behind 4-0, the Cougars rallied with a run in the sixth but could only get two in the bottom of the seventh despite loading the bases with no outs. Collin Brown pitched Dickson County out of jams in the first two innings. After a walk and a single, the Cougars pulled a 1-4-3 double play to end the Raptor threat. Brown walked two in the second but with two outs got a strikeout to escape again. But Ravenwood broke through in the third with a walk and stolen base in front of an RBI double. A passed ball and a single pushed in the second run and an RBI double by Raptor pitcher Jack Sisk chased Brown with a 3-0 deficit. Hagan Severance blasted a solo homer in the sixth off reliever Dustin Tabor for a 4-0 lead. The Cougars got their first run of the season in the sixth when Colton Thompson singled and stole second, then scored on Austin True’s double off the fence. The Raptors failed to increase their lead in the seventh after an error, double and walk loaded the bases with no outs. A fly ball turned into a double play when the runner was called for leaving base early and Ben Powlas snared a shot back to the mount to end the threat. In the bottom of the seventh, Dickson County loaded the bases on three walks. A Thompson sac fly to right scored a run and Jack Sensing made it a one-run game at 4-3 with an RBI single. But a close play for the force at second on a bloop over the mound gave Ravenwood the season-opening win. Creek Wood baseball also opened the season with a loss 2-1 at Northeast. Creek Wood softball was rained out at the Commando Classic in Hendersonville. The Dickson County Lady Cougars open their season today hosting Independence at 5 pm.
