56th Old Timers Day opens today with quilt show and art exhibit reception

The 56th annual Old Timers Day celebration begins today with a quilt show and an art reception then a day full of activities on Saturday. The Old Timers Day Quilt Show returns to the Fellowship Hall at Walnut Street Church of Christ. It will be open 8 am-5 pm Friday and 8 am-2 pm Saturday. More than 50 quilts will be on display with viewers voting for a Best of Show winner as well as winners in other categories. Admission is free but there will be donations accepted by several guilds that produce quilts for charitable purposes. The inaugural Old Timers Day Art Show hosts an opening reception 6:30-8 pm Friday at Events on Main at 103 South Main Street. The Furnace Guild Artisan Community has put together an exhibit featuring works by several well known local artists, including Eric Lankford, Rose Reed Littrell, John Reynolds, Kimberly Daniel, Peggy Cunningham, Gwen Daniel and several others. Pieces include paintings, drawings, photography, sculptures and more. The Old Timers Day Art Show will be open 9 am-4 pm Saturday at Events on Main.
