GRATEFUL FOR OWN PAYCHECKS, DICKSON COUNTY TEACHERS AND EMPLOYEES DONATE $10,000 FOR FOOD TRUCKS
By Dave Barkholz
As it became clear in April that the coronavirus outbreak would keep Dickson County Schools closed for the remainder of the school year, the school board voted to continue paying all employees through the end of term.
It was a vote of confidence greatly appreciated by teachers and staff.
Now employees are giving back.
Collectively, they donated $10,000 to pay for food trucks to continue feeding Dickson County residents who may be going without.
District Director Danny Weeks announced the collection Friday on his Twitter account.
Each employee was asked to donate $5 last week when they returned to school to show their appreciation for their own paychecks.
Every school and site met their goal, Weeks said. The district has about 1,200 employees and 16 schools.
Teachers and staff returned to work en masse last week to close out the semester by finalizing student grades and allowing parents to collect belongings left when the schools suddenly closed for good on March 10.
